The STEAM Train will benefit from the support and experience of an especially talented Board of Directors who were recruited to ensure that the organization benefited from range of key viewpoints, had access to critical specialized knowledge and represented important constituents. Together the Directors add expertise from the fields of science, engineering, physics, mathematics, information technology, community engagement, education, law, and financial management. Former Vice President, of Manufacturing & Engineering for Perdue Agribusiness Inc, and division of Perdue Farms Inc., and it’s it over 60 diverse manufacturing facilities in the US. As an officer of the company, participated in the many corporate strategic national & international initiatives and direction decisions.
Prior to Perdue, was a self-employed Business Consultant providing consulting offerings in Effective/ Empathetic Leadership, Business Process Re-engineering, Strategy Development, Culture Change, Technology Assessments, Manufacturing Excellence (Safety & Environmental, Engineering, Uptime, Capital Effectiveness, Maintenance, Business Resource Planning) and overall business effectiveness and efficiency.
Following graduation from The City College of N.Y. with a B.E. (Bachelor of Engineering) degree in Chemical Engineering, began his professional career with E.I. DuPont de Nemours & Company Inc. in their engineering department in Wilmington DE, as a plant design engineer. Through approximately 25 years professional growth is responsibilities and varied leaderships roles, he gained a wealth of experiences in manufacturing, research, corporate best practices, global business leadership, consulting, safety& environmental stewardship and sustainability.
On the personal side Mike enjoys mentoring and giving back to our youth. He served as a AAU Girl’s basketball coach for seven years with lead to many of the players receiving college scholarships, an d three being drafted into the WNBA. One of the three represented the US in the last two Olympic Games in Rio and London, earning gold medals in each. Mike is also currently a high school girl’s volleyball coach.
Steam Train’s Mission to impact the lives of the underrepresented groups through STEM, serve our children, sustainably break the cycle of poverty for many is consistent with my values and I embrace the opportunity to serve this organization.
Rosalind Z. Wiggins, Esq. – Board of Directors – Secretary
Director-The Global Financial Crisis Project and Senior Editor of the Yale Program on Financial Stability (YPFS) at Yale School of Management. Her research focuses on financial crises, their causes, impacts, and responses. In 2013, she joined the YPFS at its inception and has worked closely with Professor Andrew Metrick to build a state of the art institute. She has authored dozens of case studies on the recent financial crisis, with a particular focus on the Lehman Brothers bankruptcy, curates the program’s resource library, and developed several study guides regarding the crisis (forthcoming).
Before joining Yale, Wiggins worked for many years as a corporate lawyer for Pitney Bowes and Equifax. Throughout her career, she has served as a Board member and worked with a number of nonprofit organizations. She is particularly interested in helping organizations operate at a sophisticated level using best practices and a high degree of organizational integrity. Her topical interests include women’s issues, college success strategies, and financial literacy. She is a graduate of Yale College (BA), Stanford Law School (JD) and Western Connecticut State University (MFA). She resides in Farmington with her family.
A graduate of Middlesex Community College and a current student at Wesleyan University. His background is in the molecular biosciences, and having been a research assistant at Yale University and currently at Wesleyan University, he hopes to help inspire the next generation of scientists and civil servants. Mukshud firmly believes in giving back, and ensuring that exposure and training in STEM is accessible for everyone. Part of his motivation to join STEAM Train in 2017 was that he benefitted greatly from the generosity of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and the Summer Medical and Dental Education Program hosted at the Yale School of Medicine.
Chemical Engineer that works as an Air Pollution Control Engineer at the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (the Agency), where she has extensive knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations.
She has a masters degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Maryland, College Park and is licensed as a professional engineer in the State of Connecticut.
She has been involved with a number of controversial public hearing such as Bridgeport Harbor Station (a coal plant in Bridgeport, CT) and English Station (an old power plant in New haven, CT), where as the primary engineer, she had to defend the state for the determination made on the issuance of their permits to operate.
She currently serves as a member of the Agency’s Information Technology Advisory Committee (ITAC) based on her knowledge of the business areas and her keen ability to understand and communicate in the language of Information Technology. Her duties involve serving as a conduit of communication through all levels of the agency, ensuring that the IT transformation meets the needs of the Governor and that of the Agency.
A Statistician/Programming Professional. She born in Jamaica Queens, New York where she learned the fine sidewalk art of avid double-dutch jumping and other side-walk games. To get Barbara away from the influences of that time, her dad sent her away to grammar school at Holy Providence, Bensalem, PA; and high school at St. Francis DeSales, Powhatan, VA. Barbara, a New York State Merit Scholar, received a benevolent scholarship to Merrimack College, North Andover MA. There she received a degree in Mathematics.
Her first professional work experience as a Statistician was with the N.J. Department of Labor and Industry where she analyzed and wrote about N.J. monthly unemployment trends. From New Jersey, Barbara went back to New York to pursue an advanced degree at SUNY at Stony Brook, New York. At SUNY she was a teaching assistant. She also worked part-time for various professors helping them with data analysis on their projects. After receiving a Master’s Degree in Urban and Policy Sciences, she started in SUNY’s PHD program in statistics. Barbara sought employment before completing this degree.
From SUNY Stony Brook to Connecticut: Barbara worked at EverSource – formerly Northeast Utilities (NU) as a Market Research Analyst, Statistician, Human Resource Analyst, SAS programmer. In 2001, Barbara gained employment with Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS) in Wallingford, CT as a SAS Programmer. There she worked on clinical trial data analysis and programming in various therapeutic areas, such as: neuroscience, antiviral, cardiovascular, infectious diseases, and oncology. January 2018, Barbara retired from BMS.
Barbara enjoys spending time with her son, daughter-in-law and grandson. She also engages in pursuing healthy outlets: travel, walking, working out, weight lifting, Bikram yoga (indeed you have to like doing 26 yoga poses in 104-degree room for 90 minutes). Barbara has increased her service activities with her church – Shiloh Christian Church.
Barbara is currently a Board Member for Steam Train, INC.
A 30-year-old, mother of two girls, named Jaya’Marie and Jay’lynn. She was raised in Waterbury, CT and now resides in Middletown CT with her two children. Brittany enjoys spending time with her family, reading, and encouraging single moms to never give up. She attends Middlesex Community College to pursue a degree in Web Development. She currently works as an apprentice Web Designer with Sound Web. In December, she completed a fast-track STEAM Train Web Development academy program, graduating at the top of her class.
Brittany was also part of Working Cities core team; whose mission is to improve the lives of single parent homes within the Middletown community. In January 2018, Middletown was one of the cities awarded a $500,000 grant, in hopes of changing lives within their community.
Brittany is excited for what the future holds for her career, education, and family.
She hails from Boston, Massachusetts. She is currently a sophomore at Wesleyan University, pursuing a joint degree in American Government and Environmental Science. She will be working for STEAM Train this year as a participant in Wesleyan’s Nonprofit Board Residency Program. At Wesleyan, she is also involved with the Center for Prison Education and the Foster Care Support program. She spent this past summer teaching environmental science to young children through the Massachusetts Audubon Society. Upon graduating, she hopes to attend law school and eventually work full time in the nonprofit sector.
E. Wayne Rose
Information Officer at Bowie State University. Prior to arriving at Bowie State University in November of 2012, Mr. Rose held several positions to include: IT Specialist and IT Business Manager for the Naval Criminal Investigation Service (NCIS) where he also led a satellite project (2003-2011), and also served as Regional Director of Information Technology, the Americas for Swissôtel Hotels and Resorts (1994-2003).
Mr. Rose holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Strayer University in Information Technology, Computer Networking (Summa Cum Laude); Executive Master of Information Technology (with honors) from the University of Maryland, University College; Master of Science, Strategic Transformation from National Defense University; Executive and Federal Chief Information Officer Certifications (with honors) from the University of Maryland, University College; Chief Information Security Officer Certification, NSTISSI 4011 and CNSSI 4012 Information Assurance Certifications; Chief Financial Officer Certification; Government Strategic Leader Certification from National Defense University; and a Practical Comptrollership Financial Management Certification from Naval Post Graduate School. Mr. Rose is a PhD candidate at University of Maryland, Eastern Shore where he is completing a PhD in Organizational Leadership with research in strategic leadership, organizational culture and organizational commitment.
Mr. Rose is husband to Sarah and the proud father of two daughters, one son and one granddaughter. He believes to whom much is given, much is required, with that in mind he is committed to service and volunteers in several capacities to include a current church service project where he works on a team to rebuild homes in the Southern Maryland region for those less fortunate
